Default New here(but I guess ya'll know that :)

Hiya

I'm Samantha. I have two comets in a five and one half gallon tank(Koi and Reeses) and one betta fish in a two gallon tank(Newman). Soon I will be getting a ten gallon tank for my comets as they are getting very big and I would like to give them more room. But I'm afraid that if I give them more room they will just get bigger and need a new tank. Regardless I will be buying a ten gallon as soon as the addition is complete in my house and I have room. Koi is red and white and huge! Has anyone else noticed that red and white comets grow quicker than others or am I crazy?lol. Reeses was black and orange but has become a solid yellowish orange. They are about two years old now. Newman is a new addition to the family. I got him at a dinner party, he was the center piece of the table, how sad . I also have two dogs, six guinea pigs, three newts, and one mouse.
This looks like a great forum and I'm excited to become a part of it!
~Sam~

Welcome to Fish Forums.

I am sorry to say but the comets will continue to grow no matter the tank size. They are suited more so for a pond or a very large aquarium 100Gallons+ and some will argue that is still too small. If they are not kept in proper habitats they will often grow deformed and not live their full life expectancy. Your best bet is to find the comets a new home.

welcome to the Fish Forums.. and yes, Lexus is right! Your comets will continue to grow. You should think about finding them a new home unless you are able to provide them with a more suitable home yourself. They really need at least 100+ gallons.

Welcome to fish forums, we hope that you'll stick around! I agree with the others about your comets outgrowing the 10 gallon. You can put together a really great setup with the right fish

May I also add that creating a pond isn't too expensive, ask around for an old pool liner (free is the right price), figure out where the holes are in the liner if any, dig your hole in the ground (remember to compensate for depth with your liner), and then add water add fish. I have a 200 gallon pond that I built for free at my parents place.

Is that really necessary? I mean I believe you but I didn't know that would be the reply. I love my fish and I don't want to give them up. We are talking about the little twelve cent feeder fish from petsmart right? I wish I had known that before I bought them a couple of years ago... I want the best for them but I doubt that I could give them anything larger than a twenty gallon at most. This even would probably be a stretch. Also, I don't think my parents would go for the pond idea, although I think it would be great. Even if I was willing to give them away, how would I find someone to take them? There are very few people out there, unlike those on this forum, who even care about there fish enough to go to such great lengths. Especially a twelve cent one.
On a happier note I was wondering if the size of my betta tank is okay. It is two gallons. Would he be happier in a bigger tank or is he happy in the two gallon. I could always give him the five and a half gallon when the goldfish are in a new tank.
Thanks,
Sam

Maybe something will come along in the next couple of months! LIke Fishfirst said, you could look and ask around and probably be able to come up with an old pool liner someplace. It would be an awesome project - if I were you, Id talk to your parents about it.. escpeically since you love your fish so much..

your betta is fine in the 2 gallon as long as you keep up with the waterchanges... otherwise he wouldn't mind getting a 5 gallon upgrade.
