Default Back in the saddle again....

Hello all;

I am a long-time aquarium nut who has, for several reasons, been aquarium-less for several years. Because my husband is the world's best, he generously parted with about half of a bonus he received at work, and now we have a new 55-gallon freshwater setup. It is in its early cycling stages, so there is nothing interesting going on, except that a dozen danios think they've landed in the Taj Mahal Hopefully we can cycle the tank without it being too hideously rough on them, and then we can start introducing other permanent residents.

I think we are going to look at a combination of cichlids, nothing that demands the entire tank for its own personal domain some of the smaller cichlids and some angels. But we are in no hurry; this is a hobby, not a race. When I was younger and less patient, I often bought my fish before the tank was truly ready, and lost some as a result (surprise? not) but we are happy to take this slowly enough to bring the tank to a good balance, not overdo and not overpopulate.

Looking forward to it, and happy dancing to be back in the, um, swim of things (to mix metaphors totally).

Welcome. What is your pH and hardness like? Suggest rams or Laetacara sp. with angels.

Ph as of this morning is 8.0. Definitely cichlid water, unless I add peat to the canister filter Darn Texas limestone hard water....

I've kept angels in water like that, adults do ok, but you can't keep the fry alive.
