This is great stuff! My daughter is turning her desire to create her own strain of guppy into a school project and this info helped alot! Thanks everyone!
Whales have calves,
Cats have kittens,
Bears have cubs,
Bats have bittens,
Swans have cygnets,
Seals have puppies,
But guppies just have little guppies.

When I took biology in college I learned a little bit about genetic traits. For instance the human eye color depends on 3 genes instead of one. I have looked a bit online because I suspected the same thing for fancy guppy colors and patterns, here is the literature that explains how patterns and colors are expressed.
This thread has so much knowledge! I have two Guppies currently and I just noticed yesterday that my Orange/Goldish Guppy is pregnant! I have a Guppy that is a dark blue on the tail and the rest of the body is pretty much white. The pregnant Guppy is mostly a nice gold/orange on the tail with tint of the same color on the fins and a white body. I'm not to sure if she was pregnant at purchase but I've had them for a week or two, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if the blue one got her pregnant or if one of the same color did, they were mixed in the tank at purchase! I wonder what kind of color the fry will be if so though! I can't make sense of this information yet, but I'll keep studying until I do! Thank you all for a great thread!
