Well, I'm probably not one to ask about gravid spots. haha. But I THOUGHT that my female's gravid spot would turn and orangy light brown color right after she had a batch of fry, but then when I asked the people on here about it, they said it was probably just the lighting...so I don't know. Maybe it is just the lighting, or maybe she had some, and they were eatin before you got them...I don't know...does she look any skinnier? Because I heard they get a little skinnier right before they have them, like a few hours before...and of coarse they do get skinnier after they have them

update: still no fry, and Big Mama isn't eating as much, and being a little inactive. Is this good or bad?

Inactive is a good thing. Usually they will try to hide in a corner or in some plants before dropping their fry.

bad news: she died yesterday. she was doing fine but we just found her sitting in a plant. lifeless. she didn't look to have anything wrong with her. I am very very confused.

This happens occasionally. Its hard to figure out what causes it. It could be the stress of being pregnant.

ya, but she was pretty big, and not too young, so you would think she's had fry before. It was sad, I think she was right about to have her babies, too. But we just found her sitting in a plant, dead.

ya, but good news! My other guppy, starburst, is pregnant! oh she's really pretty she has like a cream colored body and an orange tail with red stripes, she is really pretty. One more question: I went to my PETCO yesterday and all the female guppies they had were small, my male guppy is pretty big, so i was wondering if I should wait till they git some big femlae guppies, I don't wanna risk anything. Right now I have 1 male guppy and 1 female. Should I get some more femlales so they can group together? Because the male seems to nibble and chase the females.

dnt worry if there little if they aint ready to mate they will not and if they do get preg they will not have so many babies as big ones, and when the gravid spot goes orange it is usually they have had the babies or there goin to have them!

Yay~I hope you have better luck with this little girl. She sounds beautiful! And yes I think you should at least get one more girl for your male because everyone says it should be one male to every 2 females. Good luck with this little girl!

An "orangy" gravid spot usually indicates that she's had her fry. The closer she gets to delivering, the darker it get.
