Default Arguements at forums: How to prevent such things.

Well, hello! I've just experienced a terrible long-lasting arguement at a computer forum.
Well, to avoid such things, there are several things to bear in mind:
1. Try not to tell about touchy issues like politics, religous... ****or things that are being argued (I guess there's no such things here)
2. Keep your points of view, but don't try to argue , well I mean ARGUE, for them. I know how you feel when someone likes to change your povs.
3. (Come from the #2) Don't try to change someone's points of view. Just try to give them pieces of advice,
4. If it IS an urguement and you're the ones who envoled, try to forget and move to other parts of the forums. Others need help and the name of this forum is Fishforums
5 Try to keep good relationship with people around, don't try to show that they are wrong or you are right (oopss, what am i doing? well, okay, correct if I'm wrong )
6. The mod or the admin should stop the things in time (They are doing great now)
7. And if you want to argue with someone, try instant message or other forums.
UPDATE: 8.Use as many Smileys as you can
Okay, what do you think? Correct if I'm wrong. Thanks!

Good advise, you are a credit to this forum.

I keep a successful community of fish in a 4 foot tank including the following families:
Cichlids, tetras, loaches, gouramis, barbs, rainbows, livebearers, killiefish, catfish, puffers.

Should we sticky this?

I've seen a few pretty bad arguments on this site and this would be helpfull to those people who like to argue or start flame wars.

What about a post on how to relieve argumnet stress!?!?! lol :P :P :P

I realize that all of you are from other countries, but here in the USA, free speech is a part of life. You can have disagreements without actually fighting. The world would be boring if we all had the exact same opinions. The one piece of advice I'd give is to always be polite in your disagreements. That's the difference between discussion and argument.

I know, but real arguements will be really itchy to other members, guests and that's not good, especially for the ones that envoled, too!
Well, yeah I know, the US allow these free speech, but just thinking about it, if an arguement can't lead to nothing, why do you need to carry it on?
Okay, my post is only an advice, it all depends on you to decide .

jonah, that is true but things can easily escalate and turn into an argument and often does if left on too long

That's where the moderators come into play.

As I said before, the key is to be polite in discussions. Unfortunately, some people are going to be argumentative no matter what advice is posted. It's just their nature. Most of the turmoil can be smoothed out by a pm or a public notice by a moderator, but there will always be a few that just won't listen to, nor take, good advice before it's too late.

Then, if you can't give one a good piece of advice, leave him/her alone, he/she'll understand soon!

If you think a debate gets out of hand, there is an added feature that allows you to flag the topic and send it to a moderator. a little debate is healthy.

Sure! But be careful! Sometimes the mod is a part of it! (Just my experience, no on this forums, Sam's doing good) As within the mod in, it turns out tobe a sticky arguement.

That's a good point. On the forum I moderate we had a member that seemed unusually caustic. He was fairly new to the hobby and was convinced that he knew everything because he'd read a bunch of books and articles about cichlid keeping. His snotty comments eventually turned everybody off to the point that people just ignored him. I had to explain to him that if he didn't make an effort to change his tone (not necessarily his message) then he might need to move on to some other forum. He disappeared for a few months, then reappeared with a whole new attitude. He can still be somewhat flippant on occasion, but he's much better now at communicating his points without attacking the other members. He's more willing to listen to people with real experience now too. Probably because so many of his fish died during his abscence.

Okay! Thanks Jonah!
Yeah, we're in a public forum, we should listen to them, if we don't want, just quit it! And we should look at our errors while being corrected ;-D

Good advice, however if I am asking a question, I would rather hear opinions from more than one person than only one person. Even if that means a heated debate ensues. As long as it doesn't come down to name calling, I think any kind of debate is very healthy for the forum, and it keeps it interesting.

The point is, don't be afraid to disagree with someone if you have a different opinion.

If you have opinions that just don't harshly go against the pals here or make them feel annoy, it's good. Vice versa!

arguements are apart of forums, and when your forum is based pretty much on the fish keeprs own opinion your going to butt heads. it happesn if you dont wanan be apart of it then dont respond

Exactly how is this an argument? Everybody has been very polite in their opinions.
