Default New Forums

Lots of people have been asking me that they want a few more forums around here to split the freshwater forums up into even more diverse sections.

These are some of the suggestions:
Charican forum
Oddball Forum
Labarinth Forum (I.E. gouramis and the like)
Guapote Forum!

In most ways I'm not convinced, I mean a Guapote forum I.E. giant fish forum is just asking for trouble, the more forums we have the more diverse the posts and topics are, the more complicated it gets, and eventually people will get fed up with this this Forum as a whole and find a more practicle one for their convenience.
However in some respects it will give some benifits to the forum and the forums can be more specific, but still I'm not conviced. For these specialised forums to be up and running we need to hear what other users of this forum (I.E. you) think about the idea. Because the only reason why we would ask Shaggy to take time and install new forums here on the board is if they were going to be used efficiently and not just be a waste of time for the sake of just a few reqests. After you have decided and voted if you want any more forums, we can then take action.

exception).

I keep a successful community of fish in a 4 foot tank including the following families:
Cichlids, tetras, loaches, gouramis, barbs, rainbows, livebearers, killiefish, catfish, puffers.

I voted no, characins make up a large part of fw general and fw beginner. ditto the labarinth fish. it would take a large chunk out of them. there wouldnt be enough post about oddballs to contemplate having an entire section given to them. and arent Guapote like large mouth bass, or cichlids or something? I think jaguars are guapotes.

I voted for a Labyrinth forum, but I think the betta section should be included in that.

Changing "Bettas" to "Anabantoids" would work just fine to cover all labyrinths, just like we changed Goldfish to include ponds and koi.

"Oddballs, Rarities, Killies & Predators" would combine these popular separate forum topics of other boards into one, covering things like stingrays, arowannas, tankbusters, guapotes, oscars, rarities, USA fish, flowerhorns, Killies, piranha, weird oddballs, gars, and many other "special needs" species all in one place for the convenience of the more advanced keepers who like these fish but don't want to have to sift through a dozen questions about ph and pink gravel to get to them. You can merge it with the Killifish forum to save space, since the killi forum is active, but slow, and killi questions would fit here just fine. There would be plenty of posts to fill this section. Just look at other boards with these topics and you'll see that separately they're often pretty popular, so combining them into one big forum should work well.

The "General" Forum can continue to cover the common bread and butter fish not given their own forum, along with the types of questions generally most asked by the beginners who keep them. The Breeding Forum of course will go into advanced detail about fish from both groups.

SWEET.

I voted for ODDBALL... it fills in the only void that I had, personally.

well, i think we should let the poll go on for a few more days, shaggy. then when a significant amount of people have voted, add the forum (or don't add a forum) depending on the category with the most votes....

Oddball.

Please?

The first thing you could do is move that thread about a bluegill and a large mouth bass in a 5 gallon over there.

I guess adding oddballs to killies would work. But I doubt people will post their oddball questions in the right section, especially if they are beginners and dont know what "normal" fish would be.

by making bettas into labyrinth fish you cut out the entire anibantidae family. then another section with characins, would take a large slice of the bread and butter of the fw general. fw general would be left with posts about cycling, ph and what to and not put in your tank. which should be in the fw beginner section. there'd have to be a couple mods to constantly be moving threads into the right section. otherwise characins would be empty.

since fw general and beginner are not overflowing with new threads I see no reason to reduce threads in the section.

What does oddball mean, just odd replies about any specific fish?

Shev, put up an avatar.

nah, oddball would be an odd fish, or not a beginner fish. rare = oddball.

examples, guppies are not an oddball.
electric eels are.

I had an avatar, but it went away, I'll get a new one.
