Hola Amigos!
So I was checking out the local fish store today, and on the top row of tanks I saw something pretty sweet. It was, as the title hints, a musky. Now, as far as I knew, muskies were huge fish that were in the lake near my cabin that could easily be as big as a small child. So what I want to know is any information about this little muskies. They're about 2-3 inches now. So once again, any info on a Florida Spotted Musky is appreciated. Gratzy! |

Muskie is short for Muskellunge. Very large, predatory fish. They are ambush preds that will eat anything that will fit in their mouths and grow VERY large. They are actually game fish. Unless you have an unbelievably huge fish tank, you wont be able to care for it in the long run.

Muskies get over 4 feet so keep that in mind.
Muskies are somewhat like northerns, so you may have better look researching care on northerns. Both like big plant thickets to hide in, and basically wait to attack things. (ie=ambush predator) If you have a huge tank or pond i'd say go for it as long as you know what your getting yourself into, muskies are usually not the most common of fish for sale (notherns are more common but not always seen), so you might not see one for sale for a while. I think they're cool, I've had northerns in my tank a lot of the time, and a musky once (gave to cousin..cousin's catfish ate it >.<). They're pretty neat to keep as long as you understand a little bit about them and have hiding places for them.

I'd agree with most of the above. Although I would not attempt to house such a fish unless you have specific long term plans for the fish. (This cannot include letting the fish go into the local lake either). If you do indeed make plans for houseing this fish... anything less than 5000 gallons is too small long term. And a pond that is at least 6' deep (with aerators during the winter) and several acres in size is optimal for this beast of a fish. They will probably only eat live foods... which, can get expensive. However if you do find that they will eat catfish/walleye/perch ect. fillets from the super market this can be a suitable and cheaper meal for them.

"Florida Muskie?"
Hmm... who knows WHAT that really is. Florida isn't known for having actual Muskies, so it's probably a gar or a pike of some sort. |
