hi, i have a rekord 96, been setup for about 2 years now, and i havent really had any problems for the last year, i have synos, tetras, glass cats, ancistrus, headstander, and a gourami, just to let you know what i have had.
Anyway i now have a 4 foot tank to set up, and before i start buying substrate and decor i am deciding what fish to put in, i would like something different, not too hard to look after, but something different, a little larger than the fish in my juwel, so basically something a bit more impressive, so if anyone could make a suggestion, and i can try and work with a fish, and build up companions around it, BTW i am not a after a community, allthough that is a possibility, i just need some suggestions, theres just too many to choose from! |

Not too sure on the dimensions of your tank but..
needlenose fish, bichirs (delhezi, palmas, senegalus and other smaller species), hijueta gars (rocket gar, silver gar, not actually a gar) pike characins, etc. tons of stuff lol.

A delhezi would be a great tankmate, it'll get along with the prochilodus and other similar sized bichirs; senegals, palmas, etc. Catfish and the like are also possibilities depending on the species.
As for fast growers, some are, some aren't. I've seen a few bichirs grow a few inches in the first few months, and i've also seen a few bichirs grow 2-3 inches and stop for half a year. Not too sure on delhezi growth rates, haven't had the chance to own one yet.

i have read that they arent tollerable of their own species at all,
also i was kind of trying to get fish from the same area together, as if the tank was a section of the river congo (i think) was taken out and put into a fish tank, any tankmate ideas? |

They say that bichirs don't like other bichirs on some articles, but it's obviously not true with any except ornates.
I've kept bichirs together (albino and normal senegal) and my cousin has three senegals in the same tank. As for the congo basin thing, I can't help you there. I'm not even sure if that's where most bichirs are found...

Well, lol I know, I just threw it out there because that's all I could think of them living with lmao.
There are a ton of fish you can keep with them, obviously covered by that thread, but half of them on there are too big for your tank Ropefish should be okay, i've heard reports of them being picked on bichirs, but never personally seen it.
