Tiger Oscar Cichlid

I am looking for a fish....that will, well eat other fish, and was thinking about a tiger oscar cichlid. I believe my pet store has one that i have been thinking about getting for a while, however have been patient in letting my tank cycle.

it is a predator correct?
how often would i have to feed it?

or is it one of the less agressive cichlids' as some sites are suggesting.

Oscars are predators and will eat other fish, however this should in no way be a staple diet for them. Feeder goldfish are very fatty and have little nutrient and can result in the Oscar developing HITH or HLLE disease. Just looking for a fish based on it eating other fish is not a good way to go.

so would it be something like

feed it flake food or pellet food and feed it live food once a week?

i would feed pellets as a main, frozen krill 3 times a week, cause they help colors come out o the fish, earthworms, the other 3 days or so, and live feeders that i have gut loaded once a week.

earth worms? like dig them up in the back yard or buy at a bait store/walmart, or do you buy special earth worms?

For an oscar, I feed pellets once a day (on average) - usually the morning feeding before work.
In the afternoon or evening I feed all my tanks again, and this time I offer a bit more variety.
For oscars, the pm feeding is usually some sort of frozen food - krill, plankton, formula I or formula II cubes, shrimp, scallop, clam, etc. Other common items I feed are earthworms (I culture them, but I've also bought them at my LFS or baitshop), live crayfish, live shrimp, and live crickets.

When I was breeding oscars, feeder fish were a once every 3-4 MONTHS treat -- they very frequently are sources of disease. Nowadays, I just skip the feeders altogether - oscars really do better without them. In fact I have fish breeding in the 125g tank I have my Oscar in, and the oscar doesn't even seem to chase the many fish that it could easily swallow.

Which begs the question - how big of a tank are you cycling ?
