Default knifes

whats the smallest knife u can get ( exept the african brown knife, i think they are rather ugly >_>) ?

The only "small" species provided in the trade, are mainly African Knives, which you had mentioned. The only other I can think of, would be Eigenmannia virescens (Glass Knifefish, or Green Knifefish). They're a schooling species like the africans, but also have the potential to reach 12" or so.
Most knives reach anywhere from 8 inches to a few feet, at least the ones offered. The smallest tank size for even the smallest, would be around a 55g or so.
