Killifish Scales Falling Off...?
Last night I noticed that my golden wonder had a scale coming off of his head, but now today he has a whole bald spot on his head, it looks peely and there are about 5-6 scales missing. Any clue as to what would make his scales come off like that?

Injury or disease. Since these are known meanies, my first guess would be another of his kind has been attacking him.

Well, he's on his own, so I don't think anyone could have hurt him. This morning he had the same thing, but now I looked at him again two hours later, and he has about 10 scales that are turning white and look like they are about to fall off, all in one big spot from his head (where the 5-6 already fell off) down towards his back. Could this be a water parameter problem or something??

More likely disease. Kind of sounds like velvet. Look at pic on the fish disease sites.

It doesn't really look like any of the photos I looked up of velvet, and doesn't really sound like the descriptions of it. There is just a big patch on his head/back that the scales are coming loose, turning a gray-ish white (not like there is something on it that is white, but the actual scale is turning white, like it is just losing it's color and turning sort of translucent). He also doesn't seem to be trying to eat much. I don't know if these are related or not. I have attached a couple pictures. In the second picture you can really see the big patch that is turning gray and falling off, and the first picture is just closer, but it might be a little hard to see because of the flash :-/ Thank you so much for all of your help!

I have two of these, and they both have the same spot missing. there amazing color and are piggies, so I know there fine. But mine are not missing any more spots. So I'm not sure. Also, I noticed there all like that at the petshops around here. Still Doesnt explain the other scales, but the one on the head is normal IMO.
Also, My killies let me pet them occasionaly bitting my finger :[.

Well, in the last few days those scales ended up turning red and he started swimming upside down. Apparently it turned out to be something, but I tried everything I could and still couldn't stop it. Still not exactly sure what it was, but he sure was an awesome fish. It was really fun to watch him hunt shrimp and small fish in the tank. Like you said yours do, he let me pet him and had a great personality!
Thanks for all the help, everyone!

There really fun fish, most people have no clue. And sorry about your loss. I'd say clean the tank and check your water and go get some more.
If it happens again, and everything is in order, I'd try ording online. (don't go to another store in the area, They could all be from the same batch).
Also theres some really neat killies online.

First of all, this is a year old thread.
Secondly, you keep linking that site as if it has all the fish keeping answers. I went there and there was no information. It was basically a big list of fish names. Every fish name had "Information will be coming soon". There was certainly no information about diseases on that site. You have made 7 total posts so far, and every one of them has had a link to that worthless site.
