Default jumping killis

With all the information out there on killifish, why doesn't anybody mention that they're jumping fools???

They jump out of the even tiniest opening!!!!!

I bought a pair almost 2 years ago from a breeder and he didn't mention the jumping. Result was that the female jumped out and died before I found her!
Now I still have the male in a 10gal tank and covered all the way with plexyglass. Sometimes he still jumps and hits his head on the top (ouch).

I really like the fish for the color and hardyness, but it is so difficult to have a normal tank without them jumping out.

Just thought I bring this important issue to attention for people interested in killifish

I know the feeling. I lost a male golden wonder that way. Killies are notorious jumpers.

Rivulus, Epiplatys, and related killies are well-known jumpers. That's in virtually every book on their care. Other killies, such as Aphanius, don't jump at all. Again, it depends on the species.

Default Jumping Killis.

Yes killifish are notorious for vacating their tanks through the smallest of openings. This can be elimanated to a certain extent by using floating plants such as Salvinia.

Floating plants = great suggestion.

I'd also like to add, a glass top would be another option. They come with a plastic strip that can be custom cut to fit your setup perfectly (depending on your skill with an exacto knife) to avoid oversized holes present in most plastic tank toppers. Less than 20 bucks shipped for a 10 gallon, up to 60 shipped for a 125 (2 pieces).

Thanks everyone for responding.
I still have the male, but now in a 5 gallon with a tight fitting lid. Only 2 holes in the top. 1 for the filter tube to just fit through and 1 to vent. Then vent hole is smaller than his body, so he won't get through.
But the whole setup is not a conventional tank. It's "rubbermaid" with the holes drilled in the lid to the needed size, lol.
The view of the fish is not as clear as with a glass tank, but he seems happy and is healthy.
