So the boyfriend and I bought 2 chinese firebellied newts from the pet store and put them in my unused 10G. Anyone have any experiences with them? They dont seem to be eating the stupid frozen brine shrimp we bought for them. One stays in the water all the time and the other stays on the rock.
Also my boyfriend would like to know what kind of fish he can put with them. We tried his betta but the betta wigged out. I was thinking something like feeder guppies or white clouds.... The water level is at half now but can be raised to 3/4.... just thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone knew (i've looked at a few newt sites and learned a little)

We figure they are just settling in. We also have freeze dried brine shrimp and bloodworms. They seem so inactive, do they ever do anything?

nope... not really... kinda just sit around and hang out. But they WILL eat feeder guppies if they can catch them, which is pretty sweet. I feed mine peices of raw fish and shrimp, as well as bloodworms... I started him off with brine shrimp though.

I also had a firebelly. The first time it escaped I found it dried up in front of the tank. Luckily it survived with no problems after getting it wet. The second time, it left no traces. Mine ate shrimp pellets. Didn't have it long enough to vary the foods. If I were to set up a terrarium, I'd definitely get another one. C |
