I just have a few questions about my Killifish. I bought him a long time ago and put him in my tropical tank (75 gallon). Im not positive but I think he is a Euro Asian Killifish, he's yellow.
Anyway, he was pretty nasty so Im just wondering are they aggressive or is it just my bad luck? I read that they are peaceful. He is now in a 10 gallon alone and Im just wondering if I should try to put him in with my balas? Then I will have another 10 gallon that is free. I don't want to give him up because I kind of like the little sucker. So if he has to stay in the 10 gallon by himself that alright, just wondering about other peoples experiences with these fish. |

10g's is fine. They live in puddles in the wild. As long as he's no bigger than 2.5 inches then yes.

If you have a big enough tank with enough hiding places, pH of around 7, you can keep virtually any fish together as long as all the fish are around the same size and these two groups of fish are avioded: Serrasalmus Tetradon(figure eights and dwarfs are the exception). I keep a successful community of fish in a 4 foot tank including the following families: Cichlids, tetras, loaches, gouramis, barbs, rainbows, livebearers, killiefish, catfish, puffers. |

Calling it a Lineatus is not that much of an assumption, He says it was European or Asian. He says it was Yellow, which really narrows it down (the only other one I can think of is Fundulus Chrysotus or maybe Fundulopanchax Fallax but the chances of them being in a LFS, practically none), Lineatus are commercially bred and stocked by almost every fish store in the country. Therefore I am 99.99% certain that it is one. This fish along with MOST other killis are not annuals and the eggs do not take drying very well. Try drying up some Fundulus eggs, they will not take it well. Even most aphysosemion eggs do not take being put on peat veyr well, the only ones that do it well are the nothobranchius and the various annual south americans, both of which are highly outnumbered by their nonannual counterparts.
I think a ten gallon is perfectly fine, I have kept and bred this fish and a couple other large killis in ten gallon tanks without any trouble at all, except their propensity to jump. |

I forgot, it is also aggresive which is a trait that not many killis have, this being one of the two aggresive killis I can think of.

I have 2 gold wonder killies and they are very docile they just skim the top in wait of bloodworms....

I imagine that individual variation exists within the species. MY male was also an agressive fish, holding his own with some tropheops sp. and later with a pair of blue acaras, thought the male later ate him.

Well I put him in with my balas and they all get along great! Im happy I tried it. I guess it sounds like it just depends on the individual fish, like fishguy said. He is way to mean for my "community" fish but this worked out great.
