I saw a few darters on aquabid a while back and now I'm interested in getting one. I've found two sites that sell them but I can't seem to find any good info. What I want to know mainly is how big of tank do they need and are they good with other peaceful fish?? I know they're probally fine in water from neutral ph to mildly hard since they're native to the USA. But anyways if anyone knows about them, knows a site with some info, or keeps them let me know.

You Must be talking about imakettles rainbow darters, why not just email her and ask for the info.
You prolly aint going to see any of them tell after winter now as her and Lots go collecting them theirselfs. But I maybe suggest watching what "peacefull" fish you stick them with. I had a darter I got here, not the same color as the rainbows, but, the generaly nice Kribs took about a day to catch it and he was toast..... I would say anything more then a tetra I wouldn;t put one with, but sence they are wilds, I think they may keep them by themselfs......Just shoot her an email and ask. |

they're cool, but everytime i manage to catch a wild specimen it dies because of the design of my traps. I'm perfecting a new design and with hope will soon aquire afew of them after winter.

Hi
I have had so many people want this great little guys, that I am going to go out again and try to get some, that will all depend on the water level of the creeks. Darters are a cool-FAST water fish, they like a strong current. They can handle temps of 32-78 but cool is best. I have mine at room temp, the tanks stay at 76 for the most part. So when you consider tank mates, they should be ones that can handle the current from the power head, and cooler temps. Also, Daters will not eat flakes or pellets. But they will eat their weight in Blood worms, Brine shrimp (fresh or frozen) and of course any bug you toss in there. Darters do not have swim bladders, hense the fly-fall technique of swimming. Ill post a movie of them for you. If I am able to get any this week, you can find my in the AB chatroom saturday night 7: EST. or any other time just to visit http://www.youtube.com/?v=Vpmd8HtweGE Enjoy, SueS |

That's pretty much all I had to say in PM to Dustin, Lydia. That & how they make lousy tankmates for guppies. I only PM'ed him because he PM'ed me the question & I responded.
Welcome, Sue! ( now if we can get that slapnut Pete in here as well ) |
