Native habitat- Densely planted river systems.
Maximum Size- 3 inches
Minimum Aquarium Size- 10 gallons
Natural & captive Diet- Flake, Live, frozen, pellet. doesnt matter, not picky. needs vegetable matter. Vicious insectivore. big appetite.
Tank zone- found all over the aquarium. mostly middle.
Temperament & compatibility- peaceful community fish. but may nip long fragile fins, ie guppies. Likes to school.
Hardness range-4-20 dh. adaptable.
Optimal hardness- 8
pH range- 5.8-8
Optimal ph- 6.8
Temperature range- 68-84 Optimal temperature-78
Optimal salinity- None.
Photoperiod- 12
Seasonal changes critical? Y
Hardiness & Lifespan- Very hardy fish, great for beginners.
Physical description- Silver body with red or yellow tinted fins. the caudal penduncle has a black crosslike area.
Activity peak
- Diurnal
Sexing- Males slimmer with brighter fins, even tending toward yellow. femals have a broader body frame.

Spawning notes- Very easy to breed fish. Probably the easiest of the tetras to breed. egg layers. add plants, bushy or broad leaved (I've read they spawn on either). seperate the sexes and feed well on live foods. add them both to the tank and do a large water change, reducing the tmp to around 75 degrees. After they spawn remove the parents. in a few days they will hatch, feed live brine shrimp and/or microworms for best growth rate.
Other notes- Will eat plants. Not a good fish for a planted tank.

Tomorrow has finally come.

I'm sorry it took so long. I was waiting for pictures of the spawn, eggs, and fry, but a couple things set me back, like my eel eating the only female I was conditioning. lol

but now that I can add on info later, i will ad pics of that later.
