ok i dont have a coral reef tank, i have a 75 gallon saltwater fish tank, today i desided to get a cleaner shrimp, and a emerald crab i thought she would be something different to look at. once we got her home and in the tank, i quickly remembered that i had once used copper to rid some parasites. i remember the fish guy telling me that i couldnt have any inverterbates in the tank while treating it. so i gave back the starfish i had and treated the tank. this was about 6 months ago. is my cleanerfish going to die cuz i had copper in there before? i tested the level and it was 0.2, but i dont really know if that is bad for the shrimp. can anyone help me?

Usually copper is bad for inverts. Did you clean the tank with white vinegar diluted with water before you even got your tank set up ? I think that sort of does help.

I'm not exactly sure how to rid the system of copper, i would assume water changes, but in the future avoid copper medications. There are plenty of other medications on the market that can usually take the place of copper-based meds.

Or use the copper-containing medications but NOT in the main tank, only in a separate hospital tank. That's what most people I know of with SW tanks do.

I dont think water changes will help, reason being that the copper gets absorbed by the silicone during treatment and slowly leaches out months after the treatment is finished. I dont know much about removing it, but i would go with reefnecks suggestion.

Just place it in the sump (or tank) and let it absorb the copper.
