Exclamation Pulse Coral In Bad Shape

So on saturday, I inroduced a pulse or waving hand coral into my tank. I adjusted it and everything: 10 min bag in water(closed)[for temperature], 10 min with water able to flow into the bag. However, two days later, the coral will not open up. It is slightly shrivling.

Here are my water conditions:
Sg: 1.019 (Low)
AK: Lowish
PH: 8.2
Temp: 77

I feed cyclopeze today for the first time with this tank mate.

If I were you I would increase sg to about 1.024-26. What lighting do you have?

Corals DIE at a SG of 1.019! 1.024 should be what you have at least! 1.026 is the same as natural sea water.

he is exactly right, you need to raise your salinity. As said before, what lighting do you have?

One 15W aquarium lamp (All Glass)
One Coral Sun Atinic Bulb 15W

This is in a 10gal tank.

I just added salt and the Sg is now at 1.023. I will add more salt tonight if needed after another measure.

The people at my LFS said that I have sufficant wattage if the coral is put in the mid to high area of the tank which it is.

I will make updates with pictures later tonight.

step1 never NEVER listen to your store, unless you know they are good.
for reefs 3watts per gallon is considered low light.
you have like 1.25 watts per gallon,, if you doubled your wattage you might be okay, but thats not a lot of light,, ever FW plants would be low light under that.

To correct you, I have 30W, that is 3W/gal not 1.25. Second I know that my LFS is correct, i do not go to a chain or a mom and pop, this is the place to go in all of georgia.

I'm not sure, it is my old All Glass bulb that came with my hood. So I don't know, I'll probably replace it for a coralife full spectrum seeing how it's probably about to go out any ways.

Should my Xenia begin to expand and fan out tomorrow?

I believe the coral you are talking about is Xenia. If so raise the salinity alittle like suggested. I'd probably do it with a water change. If it is xenia I'd not worry about the shape its in to start with. Mine looked like hell the first few days I got it. Since the end of feb it has grown 6 times larger. They like alot of light if you put it up high they get kinda bushy. If you leave them low they seem to tend to try stretching up to the light and get stringy. I originally had mine in a 55 gal with 80 watts of NO lighting.

You can see my situation, it is about half way up. Thanks for pointing the shape out.

Now that I look at websites, it wasn't in the best shape when I got it (fans retracted). So I think after the salinity is up, and it aclemates, it should hopefully get better.

Xenias do that, not to worry. Oftentimes they even melt away completely with horrifying swiftness, only to regrow again from the remaining leftover slime. Should your xenia melt on you, don't remove the leftover bits on the rock.
A little iodine supplement will also kickstart your xenia's recovery and growth, so try that after you have gotten your tank whipped otherwise into shape.

also low alk can be crippling to xenia... sodium bicarbonate can be used to increase it. Although I would check your alk before dosing.

Sodium Bicarbonate. Do you mean baking soda? I added a little, but won't that effect PH?

Also, how much iodine should I dose for 10gal tank. 2mL?

Kalkwasser is a better alternative. You can get food grade at most grocery stores.

As for your xenia(anthelia), T.O.S. hit it. I had the same problem and it grew back in 2 months to a larger size. The stuff is almost impossible to kill.

Just follow the directions on the iodide bottle. ( that means use reefgrade stuff, not something from the pharmacy which would be a pain to calculate )

Again, don't sweat it too much. Once your tank is running like it's supposed to, you'll be up to your ears in little pulsers in no time.

So, it is all curled up.

The fans on the different fingers are out, and some of the polyps are pulsing, but the fingers are all curled up
