hi. i'm planning to set up a 20L but hopfully a 29g reef tank as bigger is better. i've done FW for like a little over a year and like 2 make the switch 2 SW

for stocking im thinking of a yellow watchman goby, a pistol shrimp, some skunk cleaner shrimp, and mayb two other fish like a cardinals and a firefish. for coral i really like xenia and zoos and mushrooms but im not sure if theyre good for newbs. im also starting with 1/2 LR and 1/2 DR

and suggestions on stocking are VERY appriciated and im willing to listen but i really want the goby and pistol. if u know of any corals that are good for newbs it would help alot.

and product suggestions would help 2.

Go with the 29 gallon for your fish will be happier. If you can go with a 20L as a sump, just add baffles. It is very simple and will be very benifical for you new set up. Here is how to set it up.

Your stocking list looks good. Add the dry and live rock first. Let it cycle, then add your clean up crew which will consist of a mix of snails and hermit crabs. I prefer more snails then hermits. Let it sit for a while and start adding your fish.

All the corals you listed are very easy to take care off. You won't need as much light as you would for lps, sps, and clams. You will have a few choices for lights, which you will have to decide on. You can either go with compact flourence, T5, or VHO. I currently have compact, but i have been doing a lot of reading on t5 and vho and they really seem to be the way to go.

You are going to want to pick up a protein skimmer. I would suggest the coralife needle wheel.. Get this though only if you have a sump. Many microbubbles still escape in the tank. You will also need a pump or two for added movement. There are many chocies for this that will all work good. I would just look at foster and smith and read some reviews. If you decide to go with a sump you will need a return pump, a overflow (drill your tank if you can) and tubing.
