Default Anyone get corals to reproduce?

I was watching national geographic channel while ago and they were showing something about corals. And they were talking about how corals spawn at certain times of the year, when the temp and currents are right, etc. and i was wondering if any one has gotten corals to spawn.

That's what the "Lunar lights" you may have seen on reeftanks are for; they trick the corals into spawning by simulating the phases of the moon. Corals are actually pretty brainless and easy to spawn this way when healthy.

Oh, and yes, I've lost count of the number of spawnings I've had. Most reefkeepers can say the same after a surprisingly short time.

spawning is easy, im not sure if anyone has had much luck with the clouds acutally settling and growning out new corals though, thats a whole new issue.

That takes a tank set up for just that purpose, namely, a tank which has no filter or circulating pump, but instead uses a lot of airstones. Such tanks don't tend to be very pretty, but they're very productive.

isnt that also how clams are farmed? dont they use large pieces of foam or something for the "polyps" to settle and attach, then raise them large enough to move them around.

Bingo! The crumbly foam is easily removed without damaging the clam's byssus.
Tanks like this of course allow for high survival of plankton, which in turn makes everything possible. On the downside, they need constant monitoring and adjustment since things can go bad very quickly in a crash.

most of the ones ive read about were mari-cultures, i guess they are tied into the sea in some way, constant water changes, so crashes are kinda non-existent in most cases.
