Default Give me feedback!

Hey everybody. This is my 24 gallon nano reef. I use the stock 32 watt PC and 32 watt actinics for lighting. For the sun coral I feed daily cyclops and brine. The whole tank seems to love it, especially the ricordea florida.

Stock list is as follows:
1 Cleaner Shrimp
4 Blue leg hermits
3 "Red stripe" snails, though apparently my LFS misnamed them and Im still looking for a positive ID.
Various mushrooms
Green Star Polyps
What I call "Monster Heart" Palythoas
What I call "Tiger Eye" Palys as well
Ricordea
Tubastrea faulkneri, sun coral

Thanks! Im going to be getting some more LR after I recover from the holidays, financially . Sun coral Ive only had for about 2 weeks and still isnt opening all the way. Ill get pics once it starts, and of the new rock work. Hopefully I can get some fish soon. A clownfish and something else. Ideas appreciated!

I think the major thing you need is more liverock which you said you are going to add later, but remember only do a little at a time and make sure you cure the liverock before adding it to your tank. As for your sun coral you might want to try giving it more shade. They don't really need any light.

Yea I know they do, but if its back much further its going to be tough to see it. It doesnt mind, today it started opening at around 4 pm.

The tank does look a bit barren since there isnt much rock but Im working on it. Itll cure before putting it in, unless theres like some zoo hitchhikers on it or something :P

Lighting shouldn't adversely affect the sun coral at all (probably easier to spot feed if closer to the front of the tank).

Might want to try offering the sun coral mysis shrimp in addition to what you're currently feeding it, mysis is typically larger and more nutritious than brine shrimp. Eventually its tissue should cover the entire rock and bare coral skeleton areas.

Yea. Ive been told it doesnt like the light, but Ive never been told why. I know naturally theyre found on the top of caves and in dark places, but that doesnt mean that they cant be in them. I think the only situation where I would really be careful with it is if I had metal halides, because I dont want it get burned.

Once I get my new LR in a few days, Im going to have to rescape the tank anyways, so maybe I could position it so that its has more flow and will be easier to feed.

Look at this for Sun coral Care

Melevesreef.com Suncoral

He post several articles to check out as well as give his own personal expereince. Something that i should have mentioned before is that sun corals are typically not seen open durning the day. Meleve mentinos this on his site as well.

Oh yea, when I was thinking about getting the coral I googled it and that came up. That made me want to buy it even more, and it actually gives me an idea of what it can look like over time and etc.

Yea I went down there today. Got about 3 lbs of rubble rocks so I could position them the way I want and I really think it looks great. No hitchhikers besides some amphipods and a couple mini stars. Pics tomorrow since the lights are off and I dont want to startle my brand new maroon clown
