I am currently running a 20 gallon nano reef, I have a 130 w power compact lighting setup, it has 1 65w blue actinic bulb and 1 65w 10k bulb. I have been reading some things and it says T5HO might be better for my tank. I am looking into buying a T5HO 4 bulb setup, it comes with 2 24w 10k blue bulbs, and 2 24w 10k white bulbs. I know that some people say you need atleast 6 wats per gallon, and some dont. I have mostly zoo's, mushrooms, star polyps, and some leathers. Will this work out????? I am some what good at having a reef tank, but when it comes to the lighting i need some help. thanks

i say go for it. for t5ho its not the whole wats per gallon since they are high output and energy saving. it has to do ore with all this lumens and matha nd stuff. but id say go for it. but u might have too much power for some corals

Thanks for the input, my tank is doing well under the compacts, its just the fan is kinda noisy and I am looking to save some on my electric bill, plus I want everything to still look good. I have mostly the soft corals, but I do have a couple hard corals, I am just wondering how well they will do under the T5HO lighting. My hard corals are a small peice of montipora, 2 brain corals, a blasmusa. and also a neon green piece that I can never remember the name of, do you think these will also do well with the different lighting???
Thanks for all your help |
