i think jellys might be a bit harder to keep, and if you do the selection is limited, but i really like the idea

Comb jellies shouldnt be too hard they are small (3" max) and we can collect them locally. From what I've read they will do fine on a diet of cyclpleeze, phyto, and baby brine

Quick question...why do you need a rounded bottom?

The jellys need it for some reason I cant remember why. Hey Kdawg How much did your last tank cost you the just for the tank and stuff not lr or corals? Is so do you mind sharing the detail with me could make a nice frag tank IMO I don't need something big just little enough for my desk and yours is perfect. Also nice design on the jelly tank

If the corners aren't rounded, the jellies will get stuck and die. Also helps the flow go in the right direction. A rounded tank allows for the jellies to continue through their natural swimming pattern.
Kevin, you may want to do some experimenting with flow as well. You're going to want the flow to follow in the same circular pattern so the jellies don't hit the sides.
Is that a spray bar type arrangement at the top of the tank? I'm going to assume that this is one way you're going to get the flow going circular. Only one concern with this: you're going to have to make sure the flow is gentle and also, you want no air bubbles in the tank. Air bubbles can literally chop through jellies so make sure the spray is under the water.

Looks good. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Most of the jellie tanks in the backup area of the aquarium i work at are home-made setups like these and they work very well. I'm actually considering making a comb jelly tank myself this summer.

Oh, and just an interesting little tid-bit. Comb jellies are not actually jellyfish.

It really wasn't too expensive at all

Basics:

-Tank $10

-Minijet 606 $15

-Plumbing ~$5

-Lighting ~$30 but if I were to redo it I'd just use a 2x18watt pc retro

Extras:

-ATO $35

-Aqualifter $10

So all in all ~$60-100 depending on what components you use

Haha ya they aren't real "jellyfish" but w/e they are pretty much living fossils some scientists believe they pre-date sponges. You guessed right the model isnt very clear but that is a spray bar up top, and underneath is a large intake screen. I figure I need about 25-50GPH of flow.

Isn't that awesome? That's one of the reasons I think they're so amazing. I also love how they refract light. I'm not sure how well you could see that in a tank, but it'd be damn cool if you could!
I can't wait to see how this turns out...I might steal some ideas from you.

Have you decided what you're going to make the curve out of?

you can see them refract light, they have an exhibit at the GA aquarium, its really amazing like rainbow lighting traveling down. Also around here on a sunny day you can see them do it too. I'm planning on wiring RBG leds together on a controller to create different colored lighting effects (also and idea from the GA aquarium)

Good idea with the LEDs. I was thinking of doing something similar, but didn't really think of which colors would be best.

When I go snorkeling and diving in the summer there are usually comb jellies EVERYWHERE. Its amazing seeing them refract the light, especially when the water is a little dark. You're really making me want to make a comb jelly tank now. lol

I don't see why not but I'm not experienced at this at all. I've never kept jellies before and I just started researching.

Here is one website I found helpful:

ya thats doable too lol, you can either cut a side or run a false wall lengthwise so it still looks like a normal front viewable tank
