I tried to post a thread in the section "labyrinth & nandids fishes" and it won't let me. It says I don't have the permission to. Is this fixable because there's not really another place for my thread's subject.

Oh! You mean on the archive side. Okay, that makes sense.
You're not supposed to post there directly. You post in the profiles & articles submission section. After editing/polishing, articles are sent to the archive.
Otherwise, we'd have a huge mishmash of who knows what in the archive, resulting in a lot of largely useless info.
That said, there is a cookie error that logs us out when trying to switch between this forum and the archive, which makes it ridiculously difficult to ever actually transfer anything over, which is why we rarely ever bother trying anymore.
