Default explanation please

Why are the threads like evil genie and such being blocked? I'm sure we would all understand if an explanation was given instead of simply being told we can't post there anymore.

Soryy... I was surprised of that too. I asked the mods but it looked kike that Cichlid Man is now busy... we may find the answer from him. As I and another mod guessed, it could be about bandwidth

he posted something on "creative story time" he said not to post more than once. so it is probably bandwidth. i know that one of the mods said something about taking up bandwidth being fun and he sounded mad. and then chiclid man said that everyone could only post once on the other thread. so that is i guess why?

I'm sure there is a valid reason, whatever it is it would be a good idea to have a sticky explaining more clearly what is and isn't acceptable for posting in the waterhole. The main thing I love about FishForums is that as well as being able to access excellent advise I have the chance to interact with people who are fun, lighthearted, entertaining and friendly. I for one would be really sad if that spirit was undermined due to a misunderstanding because that's what makes FishForums stand out from all the other aquarium related forums out there Sorry Cichlid Man, nothing personal, I get that you're just doing your job but it's possible that your message could be more effectively (and less offensively) communicated than by putting bold red writing in other people's threads with no prior point of reference or explanation. A sticky headed "read this before you post" would be great

I agree completely with Lara. I felt like the posts cichlid man left seemed demeaning and somewhat rude in format. There was no explanation given and it was bold type meaning yelling and red meaning angry. that is just what i got from it. I too love this forum for its sense of community and friendliness. the lack of explanation may anger people and cause less members signing on daily also it could as lara stated undermine the spirit of the site.

I'm sure he will explain it. I'm sure there is a good reason for it, because he doesn't seem like a killjoy; he seems pretty cool so I'm sure he will tell us why it is.

Poor Cichlid man! I'll bet he's gonna crack up when he realises what a stir he's caused! Cichlid man, when required you give excellent advise, thankyou!

The forums aren't blocked, I've simply stated for various reasons that no more posts should be added from people who've already had their fair share in these pointless exersises. If you want to have fun that's fine but there have already been similar threads like these never ending monster topics that I've had to delete because of the repeatitive nature of them. Other moderators have also clearly stated that it's OK to start up threads like these, but not for one whole night only two people making dozens of posts, and rarely being used by anyone else. So if anyone else starts up a similar thread, the same rules will aply.
Don't forget, you are welcome to talk about anything you wish in this area, but remember that this forum isn't a typical chat room with all of the features designed to reduce bandwidth, instead please use PM for these long two way conversation type topics.
Regards, Cichlid Man.

So what are the 'rules' exactly? That you can only post once in a thread and after that you have to use PM's? In other forums two or three participants will participate in long exchanges, so is it the 'pointless' nature of these particular posts that irritates you, or their length? If they are going on for too long why not just close them? They go for a long enough period of time that anyone who wants to participate can and will so why not just make a time limit? Rather than writing posts in bold red writing in individual threads why not make up a list of rules and conditions that apply to all threads in this forum and post them as a sticky? Make it clear that it's up to the individuals posting to be aware of the rules or guidelines and to follow them.

Personally I think it's a more logical idea to limit the length and life-span of the thread rather than the number of times an individual can post.

As I said, it only applies to threads that have the potential to go monster. Also, I did lock all of theses type threads but because other people wanted to carry on posting in them, I decided to unlock them and allow people who haven't yet participated in them to do so.

I think putting a time limit on them would be a good idea. But if you do that you should put a up sticky that says the rules for it.

So, were supposed to PM everyone on the site that wants to participate on the threads like that? Wouldnt that be pretty insane?
