Smile Doodads and Gizmos Explained at Last!

This is the forum for discussing the science and technologies involved in the keeping of saltwater tanks. Not only will we discuss the various pieces of equipment, we'll discuss how and why they work, and various techniques we can use to make them work most effectively.

New developments arise fairly quickly in the saltwater arena, and this is where we'll discuss them. Naturally, we'll discuss the differences between these various things, and we'll compare and contrast all the methodolgies used in various marine system types.

Since this stuff is all relatively new, this should be a fun and lively forum. All you freshwater hobbyists who have wondered just what makes a saltwater tank tick are in luck; this will be the forum which will teach you everything you always wanted to know. Saltwater hobbyists will also enjoy learning about the newest stuff and sharing the news with others, and getting the tips needed to tweak their setups to maximum awesomeness.

Theory and application, science and nuts-n-bolts... that's this forum!

They'll all do nicely, and we should have a thread for each, I suppose. I guess we can start with skimmers?

Well....C,mon then lol. I have sat here from 2005 waiting for the rest of the thread. I have cobwebs on my hands and hair and my hand has clamped its self around my mouse. Not wanting to rush into the SW i thought i would wait a while and get as much info as possible first. But enough already im good to go. So please continue.

Capital idea! I don't know how we've managed to let this go for so long, but now that you've reminded us you can bet that we'll get things going here very very soon.

hmm.. Skimmers. Well first of all there is no tru best skimmer Ventri or air-driven the best way to tell a skimmer's effectiveness is to see how much crap has been collected in the cup.

This weekend I'll get started on this stuff, starting with skimmers, I suppose. Ozonizers, grounding probes, ORP monitors, kalkwasser dosing pumps... there are lots of things to cover, and each will get their own thread. Everyone is of course welcome to start their own threads about these and other items.
