I guess we'll be seeing a new user journal from you in about a month when you start a 10g freshwater after pulling your hair out and breaking your wallet with this setup?

Good luck! I hear nanos are difficult to maintain stability, but I'm nevertheless interested in how your experience will be.

Good luck in deed... you'll need a lot of luck to make it with that small of a setup and being a beginner. May I ask, why the rush and the crunch for space?

Good luck greggolf! I look forward to pictures. I hear small saltwater tanks are tough, and the only word of advice I can offer is to take it slow and don't get any fish for a long while.

Personally, I love nano success stories. I wish you the best!

Why be so negative?

Certainly though, good luck! What are your plans?

While I agree with you assessment of the previous statement, I must STRONGLY agree with the meaning behind it. Saltwater is not easy, especially for a beginner. Thats why we stress larger tanks (there are many, many threads on the subject). A 10 gallon tank will require daily matainence in the least to keep going. The animals in our oceans are being depleted far too rapidly for a learning experience that does not ensure the best possible chance for survival.

I do wish you well in your endeavor. I just hope you are prepared to do what it will take to ensure the safety of the animals in question.

Cool Back

sorry. I do understand the meaning behind the statement but, seriously why be so negative... And btw the sand is florida sand imported. Why u ask? Also I am not sure that i want nanos or fish. I simply want just anemones, or corals. Is that ok? Soon as i get a 55 gallon i will certainly stress what all of you commented. Sorry if i was mean.

I have to agree with that. The ocean doesnt offer an endless supply of fish and inverts. Its the same thing as a first time driver driving a Mac truck. Yeah it seems like it doesnt look that hard to get the hang of. But when you take that thing on the highway and realize that shifting gears on a Mac isnt as easy to get the hang of as you thought, you already caused a major accident.

What im trying to say is, that its easy to start the truck and travel on side streets (the equivalent of buying a 10 gallon tank and accessories) but when you need to shift up or down shift gears
(keeping alkalinity/calcium/salinity/phosphates/magnesium/pH/temperature -thats just off the top of the head- +more to keep constant)
you find that its not as easy to get the hang of as you thought.

Like it was said. The ocean doesnt have an endless supply but unfortunately people think it does, and their false ideas cause the oceans livestock to be depleted. We cant learn at the expense of the livestock. If you go bigger then you wont have to "shift gears" as often, thereby making the negative effects of mistakes more dilute. Just think about it. If you dont have room then dont get a tank. Cant buy a TV if you dont have room, why should a fishtank be any different?

EDIT: Anemones and corals are the ones that are in most danger! Corals and anemones are harvested carelessly while reefs are going extinct due to harvesters careless take on the issue. Also, fish reproduce quicker than corals and especially anemones. Anemones in the wild outlive humans. They dont reproduce as often as we would like. I would stay away from corals and inverts.

By the way, by saying all this i dont mean to sound like im flaming you or yelling at you in any way. Im just trying to shed a little light on the obligations of small SW tanks.

Sorry if it sounded like a flame, but I am still going to be a bit negative, lol.

Its basically a giant gamble with odds being 1000 to 1 against.

Your risking the lives of whatever organisms you are putting in there, as well as hundreds of you own hard earned dollars.

I'm also unaware of your experience in the subject, if you are well experienced in both small tank setups and saltwater than I look forward to seeing your results, if not I wish you the best of luck for both your sake and of the SW creatures.

At least go through the forum and read all the other threads where small SW tanks have been attempted or even suggested. I think it was reefneck or TheOldSalt that posted not too long ago on exactly this subject.
