Lol nah, I'm an outback aussie living in cattle country. Most people don't have fish. I had to special order my rainbow shark that was after an hour of explaining what a rainbow shark was. Oh and my paradise fish was even worse, apparently paradise fish are boring fish, even so when I got gavin he had to go through a round of treatment cos he was so badly beaten up by the goldfish he was with.

I think for now I'll just move my male Sailfin over and once the tanks settled and established I might add some other fish, and will def be keaping an eye on the cichlids as I'd love a keyhole.

Actually while I'm here LOl, if I stuck some filter wool in a bag and put it over the intake on the pump, would that act like a filter?

I'm a little behind on this journal, but just wanted to say if you are still wanting the Electric Yellows, they need a larger tank. They are African Mbuna and rock dwellers. They are a tad aggressive and should be kept in groups. I would say a 40g would be minimum for a group of these guys. They actually get around 5 inches.

Just an update the tanks currently planted with an absolute pile of wandering dew, two bunches of Elodea and two bunches of foxtail, my java moss still hasn't arrived, It's being run by 50g per hour pump which has filter floss over the intake and has a 50w heater which is currently doing a great job at heating the tank. But some unwanted things moved in, thers a small amount of algae, thousands of mosquito larvae and quite a few baby snails. So today I tested the tank (Nitrates and Ammonia were both 0) as I'd had a plant die a few days ago and was worried it'd hurt the tank, but everythings happy so i moved in some fishes.

Mr Molly my imaginatively named Sailfin Molly is now enjoying himself greatly with all the algae, snails and insects and my two dwarf gouramis (G1 and G2) who were having trouble in my other 20g (didnt have enough hiding places for em, and my rainbow shark was torturing them) are hunting down all the snails and mosquito larvae.

I think I'll stay with just those guys for a while, I'm still really iffy on the gouramis as neither have ever looked all that healthy but Mr Molly's happy. Will post pics in a few mins.

Oh in the first pic, the plants are no where near that brown, my camera went a bit screwy with the colours

Time for an update LOL, because of school etc My tank was pretty much ignored for a few days and well it wasnt pretty when I got back to it, the Elodeas pretty much disintegrated, so I'm still trying to get the bits out, and it isnt working to well. In the ned I stuck a filter from one of my other tanks in there in the hope it'll get all the plant bits out.

The tanks now had fish in it for about a week, still no readable nitrites or Ammonia.

One of my gouramis isnt doing too well though, I dont think he'll last the night but my Molly happily gobbled down the entire snail population and the second gourami is also cheerfully round and fat.

I've rearranged the tank a bit and placed the wandering Jew, foxtail and small amount of remaining Elodea on one side and my massive pile of Java moss on the other side.

Oh the pump also died on me, so I'm gonna pick up a proper filter tomorrow while at the pet store, and if the gourami dies (which is most likely since i'm thinking pf just putting it out of its misery) a third fish. Probably another Molly or some other peaceful fish.

Lol well in the end I couldnt help myself I'm in the middel of doing a full 100% water change. I moved the fishies into a second bucket and rinsed the plants down with clean water, I will get rid of all the plant bits LOL, Their just really really bugging me, and the tank looks gross with em in there.

Sometimes I just cant belive my Mum. Okay so it worked out that I wasnt able to get to the fish store so I just asked Mum to get any similar sized TROPICAL fish for my planted tank and two snails (snails are for a diff tank) Anyway she turned up with a baby black moore, sigh what the heck am I sposed to do with a goldfish? The only coldwater tank I have is a 10g tank with an agressive paradise fish. Our petstores don't let us return fish either. So for now Onyx gets to be a tropical fish, I'm slowly turning the heater down to 23 degrees celsius, which si only a degree below what the ehater has been set at so the fish should be fine with the change, I'm also keeping a very clsoe eye on teh Molly and Gourami and if needed will pop em back into my rainbow sharks tank.

Oh the planted venture isnt going to well, my idiotic molly is shredding my foxtail and happily eating it. Ah well another plant eating fish cant destroy the tank any more than Marino the Molly has *eyeroll*.

Oh if anyone wnats to know the reason why Mum got a goldfish was cause it was it was all of 40 cents, there was a 'sale' on (read: there goldfish population was getting a wee bit to big and they wanted to downsize to get some nicer more exotic fish in)

Will go snap pics now
