I got on the laptop this morning to check my email, and heard a rustling beside me. Lo and behold, one of my African Dwarf Frogs had escaped from the tank and was sitting right by my mouse - disaster luckily averted! Back into the tank I popped her, and quickly rearranged the top so that she couldn't escape again: the air hose was stopping the top from closing fully, but that's fixed now and it's all nice and secure!
In the breeding tank, still no fry from the guppies, though they're both looking very, very square now. It should be today, fingers crossed! If I have time tonight, I'm going to see about getting another 10 gallon tank. I want to seperate the mollies and ADFs from the guppies, to give them all more room - and to give me more viewing pleasure! I may 'adopt' the tank in the kitchen, too, with its two tetras and the cleaner fish. I'm also thinking of getting some sort of light so I can see my fish more clearly, because it's quite dark where their tank is. And hopefully by thinning them out a bit more the water will be less cloudy. |

Most pet shops/chain stores sell 10g kits (with filter, hood/lights, net, tank, food, etc) for $30-40...great deals for setting up a spare tank, or having on hand for emergencies

Thanks for the advice! I just bought myself one, and finished filling it up - it takes 30 liters, which is 8 US gallons... The tank came with a filter, light, plants and ornaments, and I bought an air curtain to put in it, all for US$42ish, which is cheap over here. And I found blood worms, at last! Everything's from this little store that I stumbled upon when trying to find a traffic-free way back home...
Now I just need to decide which fish to put into it! The frogs will definitely have this tank for them, and I think maybe the guppies will go in with them, seen as how there's 9 of them. But then again, I would quite like to have a pair of angel fish... how well do angels and mollies or guppies get along? What about angels and ADFs? |

Wahey! I went to the last fish shop i knew of, and got two cleaner fish, and some live plants! The cleaners are currently in their bag adjusting to the temps in the current tank, and the new tank is all set up and ready to go tomorrow! I think it's going to be best for the female guppies, the two mollies and frogs... I might just keep the male guppies where they are, for now.
I saw my first little puffer fish today at the store too - they're so cute, with black and yellow markings. It's a shame they won't go with any of my fish... |

Well, in moved the fish to their new home; all of the female guppies (bar two, who are in the fry tank), one plec, two mollies and three ADFs, and everyone looks comfortable!
I had a major scare with the frogs though - I was looking in their tank, and saw one lying on her back, as if she couldn't move! So I picked her up and brought her to the surface so that she could breathe, just in case that was the problem. Anyway, whatever was wrong, she was soon fine and swimming around normally. Then I checked on another frog, who was also fine. But then, panic, I couldn't find the third one! I looked all over the tank, ran my hand over the bottom just in case he was totally camouflaged, but nothing! So I started thinking I had an escapee... and checked behind the tank, though I didn't know how he could have got out. Lo and behold, two water splashes behind the tank, so I started searching the surrounding area. No frog. So, figuring there was nothing I could do, I sat back and got upset, and closed the tank. Five minutes later, the little bugger reappeared in the tank, swimming around happily! Where on earth he was hiding I'll never know, because he's now in the big tank with the others! |

The ADFs have been quite noisy today... I've been at my desk, where the tanks are, for nearly all day and I've heard squeaking from them nearly all of the time! It's nice to know that they're in there, enjoying themselves!
Some sad news, though... one plec and my two mollies died Oh, and the frogs now have names. There are two females and one male, so Giselle, Scarlett and Jack |
