Default 29 gallon log

So, I origanally started a thread for this tank, but it was lost in the update, or lack there of.

Not much has changed. It's just really cloudy from a bacterial bloom, and brown, from the tannins in my water from that stupid pieve of wood.

I got quite a few new plants, but you can't really see them, let alone take pics of them, because the tank is so cloudy.

Once it clears up, however, I'll take some pics.

I put another 30 inch T-5 on it today, so adds up to a total of 100 watts. Almost 3.5 wpg's. I won't have all the lights running at the same time. I have 2, 36 watt fixtures, and a 28 watt fixture. The 2 36 watt's will only be on for about 8 hours, along with the 28 watt fixture. Then, after 8 hours, only the 28 watt will be on.

I added 2 bottles of DIY Co2 No pearling yet, but I'm being patiencent.

Current Fauna:

2x Apistogramma agassizii
10x Kerri blue tetras
6x Corydoras habrosus (dropping like flys)
1x Flying fox
1x Dwarf clown pleco
3x ghost shrimp
2x nerite snails
pond snails

Current Flora:
Compact swords
Ludwegia repens
Altertelanthera reineki
Corckscrew vals
LM(Something madagascarensis)
Blyxa japinoca
Rotala walachii
Red cobomba
Sunset hygro
Limnopholia aromatica (spelling)
MOSS BALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cyptocoryne wendtii red
Java fern
Flame moss

Current Algaes:
Hair
Green spot

Eventually, when my stupid cories stop dying, I'm gonna get some ottos for the algae.

Amonia:0
Nitrites:0
Nitrates:0
Phosphates:5 (stupid tap water)
Ph: Last I checked, before the Co2 was added, around 7.4
Potential Ph: around 6.8ish

I'm using strictly RO/DI water in this tank in waterchanges. Thatway my phosphates won't go oput of control, and my Ph stays reletivily stable. Ph of my tap water is 8.0, so normally, I just mix RO and tap, but because my phosphates are so high, I'm just gonna use pure RO water. My fish are all softwater fish anyways, so what the heck.

Picks when the cloudyness goes away.

How did you fit that much lighting on your 29 gallon?

Can you post a pic? I have a 29 and I'm not thrilled with the lighting setup - only one Coralife 36 watt T5er.

I"m using 3 T-5 fixtures. I'll get a pic later.

If I used 3, 30 inch fixtures, I could getr a total of 108 watts. Right now, I have 2 30 inch fixtures, and a 24 inch.

I have green water...bad...

I'm getting a UV sterlizer for my 40 gallon in about a week, so I'll run it on the 29 while I'm at it to clear it up.

On the good side, all the platns are growing. My apistos might be getting ready to spawn. My female has doubles her size in about 2 weeks, and they are now chasing every other fish out of this one little spot by the flowerpot and the driftwood.

Pics comiong shortly.

I have never seen water that green and murky like that. Just how does it end up looking like that? Hopefully I am doing something right if all my tanks are clear.

Read his first post:

"Not much has changed. It's just really cloudy from a bacterial bloom, and brown, from the tannins in my water from that stupid pieve of wood."

Right I read that, but just what causes that kind of bacterial bloom?

too much fish at once...bacteria needs time to catch up.

I have green water. It sucks, I can't see 6 inches into the tank.

I can't wait till I get my UV sterlizer.
