Default Fish_Docs - Fishroom

Ill start a running journal for everyone to see what is happening in fish_doc's fishroom. Fish additions, water changes, new fry, and the works.

Yesterday - Adopted 4 different 3/4inch long Jack Dempsy Cichlids and placed them in their own pre-cycled tank.

Today - Adopted 1 male guppy and added to a tank with 2 female guppies. Blue-Purple in color.
Also adopted 6 swordtails. 3 of whcih are orange females 3 of which are orange males with black swords.
----------

In this Journal I will use the word Adopted when I buy a fish and rescued when I get a fish from another person.
Rescue does not always mean it was being kept in less then ideal conditions. Just that the owner no longer wanted the fish and was getting rid of it.

There was a suicide in my fishroom last night. One of my female swordtails jumped out of the tank. I found her about 4ft from the tank awhile ago. A little dried up. Time to redo the lid to close up the open backside.

LOL My wife told me that when we were getting our furnace fixed yesterday the repair guy made a few comments about possible humidity issues in the future. I know this and had already got a dehumidifier to get us by until I set the fishroom up with all the tanks and proper filtration, for both water and air.

My new swordtails came down with ick. Its the first case I have had in any of my tanks in years. I am medicating them with malachite green and pumped up the temps a little.

I am treating the swordtails with malachite green from korden and they already seem to be getting better. I increased the temps a few degrees.

The 2 females in the tank are all but better. The male swordtails still have several parasites on them. The tank is still being treated but it looks like all will be well.

Looks like they have all recovered. YEA Ill continue treating the tank for another week just to kill off anything left in different stages of the lifecycle.

Another swordfish suicide yesterday in my swordtail tank. They seem to be alot of trouble. LOL. So today I fixed the lid so it was nice and tight fitting.

To celebrate my simple labor on the hood made simple with the rotozip I bought 3 more female swordtails. So I now have 4 females and 2 males in the tank.

I know most of you will have a heart attack when looking at what I keep and what size tanks they are in. They are all currently in the proper tank for their size. And I have the equipment to upgrade them to larger tanks or put fewer of them in each tank as necessary. But unfortunally most people dont and buy and overcrowd their tanks not taking the adult size of the fish into account. When you really look at my tanks you will realize they are stocked low and are for the most part single species tanks.

Darn, I lost my white strip cat last night. He was almost 9 years old. Now my oldest is the pleco in the same tank bringing up about 8 1/2 years of age.

I picked up a Elite Stingray submersible filter today for my newt tank. It is a fairly new filter on the market.

I will be running a life and reliablity test and posting the results on the attached link

This little filter is doing a great job. Water is clear and you cant even hear the filter running.
