so i went to the petsmart in rockford and purchased an API master freshwater test kit and tested my water...lets just say im shocked they are alive...my ammonia was above 8 ppm my ph was under 6,0 and my nitrites were up to 1.0 and my nitrates were fine...my hardness levels are always around the same though...being new i went to the store and spent a ton of money to fix a problem with a probably simple solution that i dont know....any imput?
how did you fix the problem?
.. you still need a bigger tank.. every time you feed your fish and every time your fish poops it adds ammonia to the water.. heres why you need a bigger tank.. with a small tank.. theres only so much power in such a small filter and its just not powerfull enough for the bioload (which is the ammonia levels being produced)
actually i have overrated filters on my tanks....the 1 in my 30 is for a 55 and the 1 in my 10 is rated for a 30...and in the big 1 i also have a power head which does some of the floating poo cleaning....i tried to fix it chemicallly but that was hard on my fish so i bought some stuff the petstore lady told me to and doing a little more frequent water changes....so im tryng to go "natural" as she put it
