DAY 8 - Monday June 11th:
Didn't plant on doing an update today but as I came home I hit my first road block on my journey to my carpet.
Glanced at my tank to see if there was any more root shoots and noticed some patches were melting rather quick since yesterday.. so as I lifted the saran wrap I smelled a bit of mold. I couldn't really notice in till I sprayed down the tank then I could see closer the webs of death. Man let me tell you, this stuff moves quick.
So instead of getting mad and frustrated, I decided to look at this as a positive learning experience. Grabbed my bottle of H2O2, handy dandy syringe and started mixing up a 1-4 parts with RO water. (15ml H202/60ml RO)
And as i'm typing this up, I'm letting it air out for 30 mins...
So the only thing I can think of why this happened was too much humidity. Only thing I did different was went from misting daily to misting every other day. I might just have to go back to the original plan unless anyone has some advice?
It sure did some damage and I'm almost thinking if I should abort DSM which I would hate to do and start filling before I lose.
What do you guys think?

Yep this is where I hit a wall. Ive heard that poking holes in the top the increase circulation helps, or add a computer fan. I have not tried these yet but the holes in the top method sounds like a winer.

On both attempts of a dsm I tried to kill of mold with Excel verses hydro. It really seemed to not help at all. On my second attempt I used diluted Excel with the water in my spray bottle. Im not sure if it helped because my second attempt died from lack of moisture not mold. However all the research I did on the subject on tpt pointed towards it being caused by lack of ventilation. I tried opening the top when I got home to air it out but with increased aeration you need to mist more. I ran into issues of having time to mist them enough. Maybe try adding a small fan and only run it when you are home so you can maintain humidity levels. The dry start method is not an easy one, thats for sure.

Mold from what I read is caused by excess water. It only needs a little bit of water and I was getting a little too spray happy. From what a friend was telling me is that I should have just sprayed the walls a little and 1-2 sprays on the substrate. I'm guilty of doing alot more, hence why I was manually removing water surface.
I think a fan would dry out the HC if anything.. and don't see any real benefit to that.
I did although poke 2 small holes in the back but thats all i'm doing.
The H202 has killed back the mold for now, but I predict I'll be filling in the next few days.. I'm just glad it got time to root

DAY 11 - Thursday June 14th:
Filling Time!
And up she goes...
Heres a side shot filled..
Full tank shot
Within 45 mins I was already getting instant pearling
So I'm hoping I can bounce back from the mold and bring this carpet back to life, I'm not going out without swinging! But I sure did take a beating. I cranked the co2 up to the max and leaving on 24-7, DC is pure yellow. Running Lights for 10hrs.
My only question is should I start dosing ferts and excel already? Or should I wait it out a few? I've also heard about Frank Wazter's method on daily water changes for the first week and every other for the second. Might try that. Just cant seem to find the link to it.
So do you think this thing can make a turn around? All advice is welcome here!
Thanks for following

I was talking with Frank on the phone yesterday and his methods and skills are really spot on. Especially since you are set up with ADA products. There methods are fine tuned for their specific products and work best when followed. Good call on simply filling it. I was always to stubborn to do it and ended up loosing everything.

Lol better to be less stubborn and save yourself some bucks.
Do you have the link to his water changing method?
