Working in a pet store
Does anyone here work at a petstore or their favorite on (just out of curiosity)?
I asked the owner of my LFS if I can get a job when I'm older, and he said when your 15 come back and I'll see. My be 3 years but I hope I get that job someday!

bullseyejoey, I worked in a petshop (with a huge fish dept.)chain in L.A. while putting myself thru college, and I can honestly say it was the most fun job I ever had (except for teaching scuba diving on the gulf coast!) You get to learn so much about pets and their people, and I loved working in the fish room. I took on side jobs setting up fishtanks for people who wanted big tanks, even did some maintenence for them. It was fun! And even got a discount for stuff I bought in the store! I do think it depends on who owns or manages the store though--if they are very caring about the well being of the animals & fish, or if they just want to make money at the expense of the animals health. I was lucky, the store I worked for was owned by a person who really cared and did everything to make sure the critters were healthy & happy, and customers were educated about their new pets or fish.I highly recommend it as a first job, if you can get along well with people (customers can be tough sometimes) In our store, new workers started out just cleaning cages and dusting or stocking shelves until they became familiar with the products, and companies would hold educational seminars for petshop employees, with gift bags full of goodies as incentives to attend. Not a job you can get rich at, but great experience and nice perks. However, I have noticed that many workers at the big national petstore chains do not seem to have had much training, and sometimes they are just making things up
to sound knowledgable. I would rather they just say "I don't know". But that may be me being an old fart or something!

Store all the knowledge you can joey. I am so tired with my lfs hiring kids who do not care, and have no clue what i am talking about when i ask a question.
Keep up the good work, i would be glad to step into a store where you will be working. You care for the fish.
