Deep's first 20g tank

8/30/05

Today I started my very first fish tank.

20g (donated by my gf's brother)
25lb black gravel
7 fake plants (picked out by my sister)

-After rinsing off the tank I placed the water, gravel, and plants in the tank.
-I added approximately .25ml of Prime (removes Chlorine, Chloramine, Ammonia).
-I let the tank sit for about 8 hours.
-I tested the pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate levels.

Results:
pH - 7.6
Ammonia - .25 ppm
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nitrate - 0 ppm

-I installed the Whisper Filter and started running it.

I'm in the process of creating a log on my computer of everything I do in addition to this log.

9/6/05

Ammonia levels dropped for the first time since adding the initial Ammonia. Noticed the water level had decreased slightly.

Ammonia - 4.0 ppm
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nitrate - not tested

Detected Nitrites for the first time. Noticed the water level had decreased slightly.

Ammonia - 2.0 ppm
Nitrite - .25 ppm
Nitrate - not tested

Couldn't sleep so decided to play with my tank. The water level has decreased a sizable amount so I decided to top off the water in the tank. I figured this would reduce the noise from the filtered water pouring back into the tank. The noise wasn't enough to bother me too much before but sometimes it's nice to have absolute silence while sleeping. Poured in some water and sure enough the noise practically ceased. Now I'm back to bed.
