Surf through your local Craigslist weekly you should/might find one on their for cheap although around me everyone is trying to get face value for them (I paid 200 for this tank brand new had it for 3+ years asking 170 ) I pass those ones up instantly lol
Not weekly, check hourly or more. Bookmark "fish tank" "fishtank" "aquarium" in "all for sale/wanted" and "all community". Also look for Petco $/gallon sale (40 breeders are awesome, but it can be expensive to get stands and lids) and local store once a year sales. After christmas, check walmart and other places that have package deals for discounted kits. Also join all "local" (distance you can drive) aquarium societies and read their boards and go to their auctions and swap meets.
sorry, emc 7 i live in the uk and my dad might not allow me to get a bigger tank although he said why dont i save up my pocket money to get another 29 gallon.
I always find it amazing how expensive aquariums are in Europe. They are just 5 pieces of glass and a plastic brace. You could always try your hand at building an aquarium.
Otherwise, look on craigslist. It's really the best option for finding cheap aquariums. At least it is in the US.
casual mention your desire in each of your circles and/or on facebook. You'd be surprised how many empty tanks are sitting in garages and basements "too good" to throw away but not worth selling. Maybe you will get lucky and someone will "loan" you one.
Your dad may be afraid of a spill or being stuck with a tank when you leave home, or just think the home is too crowded already. Start planning you dream tank for when you have your own place, just don't buy any more fish that you can house right now.
We found our 33gal for REALLY cheap on usedvictoria - not 100% sure if they're in the states, but basically its used==yourcity==.com
or craigslist
or kajiji
garage sales when the weather is right will also be a jackpot for fish stuffs
