Hello all,

This is my first time in this fish forum. I'm a beginner hobbyist on freshwater tanks so I hope to learn from all your experiences.

I will start with this picture of my 16 gallons tank. I got two grown up guppies, five small guppies and three danio zebras. The small guppies are from a fry I got on november (45 babies) and they are starting to show color on their tails. I gave away the mother and the rest of the fry to my friends and family 'cos I couldn't house them all.

I planted some elodea sprouts and a pair of a mexican plant called "telefono". At the beginning the "telefono" had big leaves, but as soon it started growing new leaves I cut the bigger ones. Now it has small leaves and seems healthy.

What do you think of my tank? Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forums and nice tank! I would recommend a water change as it looks sort of dirty. I would also recommend you get a few corys and some shrimp as you have room.

Welcome! I wouldn't say that it looks too dirty, more like algae on the glass. There is algae on the glass below the gravel line, so I am guessing that you changed out the substrate? Try seeing if you can get your hands on a nerite snail, as it will definitely clean up all that algae.
Good luck in the hobby!

Thank you all for your replies. I'm so glad you read my post! :)

Betta man and Ihearfish: Yes, I got algae below the gravel and on the glass (but water is perfectly clean, it doesn't smell bad and it is clear). I try to clean the algae out quite often, but it grows up really fast! I guess it is because my tank receives direct sun light in the mornings. Would you suggest a gravel vacum? Is it efective?

By the way, I have a question. In the right corner I got some moss. They told me it would grow on the gravel under the condition I didn't change or move the gravel. Is it truth? I love those tanks with some kind of grass on the gravel and I want to have some of it.

OhYesItisMe: Thank you! It is good to hear that. My dad gave me this tank last november so I'm still working on it.

Another question: Is it my tank overcrowded? Is there room for another fishes? My boyfriend wanted to buy me a blue dwarf gourami...so will it be a good idea?

It's not overstocked. There'd be room. What type of filtration do you have? That also impacts how many fish you can keep and how many water changes needed. Try this!
