Hmm... posting a reply reminded me one thing...
Well, I'm gonna build a discus tank tis summer. But I think I should plan everything up well. What subtrate should I use? I find sand quite simple, cheap and beautiful though. What'd you think? Should it get along with the discuses well?

Glass is the best bottom for discus. You need to vac a discus tank and change the water in it anywhere from daily to 3 or 4 times/week. Vacuuming is a lot easier in a bare bottom tank. I f you want plants you can try something like this:

I don't know anything about discus, but I would say use whatever substrate is in their natural habitat. If it's sand, use sand, if it's rocky, use rocks/gravel, or just use what you like. :)
